An update from FCA Hockey
“What an amazing opportunity to share and show the love of Jesus Christ to young hockey players across the world,” said FCA Hockey’s National Director, Rick Randazzo, as he and his team returned from seven days of ministry outreach in Erzurum, Turkey. This was FCA Hockey’s third trip to this small city in Eastern Turkey over the past 12 months.
During the trip, Rick and his teammates worked with the U-18 and U-14 Turkish National Teams. They also spent time connecting with local believers and building relationships in the community. By God’s grace they had a chance to donate more than $9,000 worth of new and used hockey gear to the Turkish players thanks to generous donors from across the United States. One of the trip’s highlights came when the team was able to encourage the U-18 team about “what it means to be a champion.” They shared how being a champion is about the heart; it is about knowing you did the very best you could with what God has given you, in every area of your life.
During the talk they asked the following question of the players: “Who is greater, the one who lays his life down to save someone, or the one who gets saved?” The kids responded in Turkish, “The one who gives his life, the one who gives his life.” The FCA team responded, “The greatest among you is the one who serves.”
Over the course of the week the FCA Hockey staff had a chance to share Jesus with several of the Turkish players and staff as well as meet with a few of the local believers and missionaries. Over the past year, several barriers came down and Rick looks forward to returning again in 2014 to continue to grow the relationships that have been formed. Rick is also hoping that some of the Turkish players are able to visit the United States in May of 2014 when FCA Hockey runs their Team FCA event in Niagara Falls, NY.
FCA Hockey considers themselves very blessed by the relationships they are getting to build with the Turkish community of Erzurum. They are looking forward to trip number four and to what the Lord has in store for their special friends in the Middle East.
